Step 5: Closing Day

Congratulations! This is the day you take possession of your home and get your keys. Here’s what you can expect on closing day:

  • Your lender will provide the mortgage money to your lawyer (notary).
  • You must provide the balance of the purchase price to your lawyer (notary).
  • You will also be responsible for paying legal fees, disbursements and land transfer taxes.
  • Your lawyer (notary) pays the vendor on your behalf, registers the property in your name and provides you with the keys.

Need to Know: Your lawyer (notary) will contact you prior to closing day to collect your downpayment.
